As you suggest, your body is now used to this time. We suggest you gradually try and make the time earlier and earlier. If you don’t masturbate for at least several days you’re more likely to jump to attention when you want to.

How safe is it to suck a penis? Thank you

The Sexpert, 2 November 2009

It’s considered low risk for HIV given that you don’t have any significant broken skin in your mouth. Getting cum in your mouth increases the risk, but it’s still less risky than unprotected anal or vaginal sex.

I am 17 an go to boarding school, an I think I am gay! I get erections in the p.e changing rooms watching other guys get changed. I masturbate in the hostel toilets when other guys are around. I always have a temptation to seach naked guys on the Internet also. At the pool I always get boners looking at other dudes. What should I do?

All the things you describe are completely normal for a young man and I’m certain there are many others experiencing similar feelings. If you begin to experiment make sure it feels right, don’t be pressured into something you’re not ready for and remember to use lube and condoms for anal sex.

It can really help to talk things through. Youthline () or OUTLine NZ () are both great for having a chat about your feelings in the safety that no one you know will find out - it really helps.

Can you contract HIV by swallowing semen?

View responses (2)

The Sexpert, 12 October 2009

No. It isn’t the swallowing that involves risk of HIV transmission, but the condition of your mouth and how long the semen remains there. Significant broken skin in your mouth, gum disease and other STI’s increase the risk of HIV transmission through oral sex. If you get semen in your mouth spit or swallow (it’s doesn’t matter which) quickly. Oral sex without semen remains low risk .

Sucking involves some risk but not many will suck a condom. What do you think of this dilemma?

View responses (1)

The Sexpert, 12 October 2009

Very few men to use condoms for oral sex and given that oral sex is low risk for HIV transmission it’s far more important for condoms to be used for anal sex.  For optimum sexual health and wellbeing, we recommend a full sexual health check every three to six months from your nearest sexual health clinic, or New Zealand AIDS Foundation Regional Centre.

Hey, is it safe to use cooking oil as lube when wanking your cock?

View responses (1)

The Sexpert, 11 September 2009

Using cooking oil as lube when you’re just wanking your cock is fine.  But when you’re having sex with someone, you shouldn’t use oil.  Oil-based lubes (like cooking oil, baby oil, vaseline, lotion, etc) breaks down the latex in condoms and can cause them to break.

When you’re having sex with someone, using condoms and water- or silicone-based lube is really important, as they’re the best way to protect you and your partner from HIV and other STIs.

When we send out condoms to people, we send out water-based lube too.  You can use it when having sex, or just wanking your cock.  Go here to order some.
